Spain wants to cooperate with Vietnam on long-term basis

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is one of three Asian countries that Spain gives cooperation priority to, said Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in an interview granted to a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the occasion of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Spain from Oct. 8-9.

He said that the signing of a framework agreement on development cooperation which includes regulations on the establishment of a joint committee proved that Spain's desire for cooperation with Viet Nam is constant and long term.

PM Phan Van Khai visits Germany

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was given an official welcome ceremony in Berlin, Germany, today, Oct. 10, the first of a five-day official visit to the country as a guest of German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

After the welcome ceremony, PM Khai and his German counterpart held talks and had a press briefing. The two leaders briefed the press on their talks dealing with bilateral cooperation and agreements.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits Spain, Germany& Netherlands

Oct. 7 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and his wife left Ha Noi today, Oct. 7, for official visits to Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

<B>VN pledges to join worldwide endeavor to counter terrorism</B>

Oct. 5 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is willing to fulfil its obligations in conformity with national and international law in a worldwide endeavour to counter terrorism.

The statement was made by Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau at a UN discussion on measures to eliminate international terrorism in New York on Oct. 4.

Vietnam welcomes China's entry into WTO



On Sept. 20, 2001, FM Spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh answered quesstion regarding China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Ms. Thanh said that Viet Nam welcomes China's WTO admission, considering it to be an important event for China and the global economy.

China is a major economy in the region as well as the world, so its admission to the WTO will bring about new opportunities and challenges for Viet Nam.

Vietnam ratifies UN protocols on the rights of the child


Ha Noi, Sept.11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has ratified two optional protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which were passed by the United Nations General Assembly on May 16, 2001.

These are optional protocols on the sale of children, child prostitution, child pornography, and the involvement of children in armed conflicts.

Vietnam-ROK joint Communique on cooperation


Ha Noi, Aug. 23 (VNA) -- A Viet Nam-RoK joint communique was released in Seoul today, Aug. 23, during the official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) by Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong from Aug. 22-25.

Vietnam and Indonesia assure of further cooperation


Ha Noi, Aug. 22 (VNA) -- Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri have expressed their determination to continue promoting bilateral cooperative relations between the two countries by boosting cooperation in commerce, investment, tourism, and culture. They also agreed to step up efforts for a resolution of the continental shelf issue between two nations.

The two Presidents began their talks in Ha Noi on the morning of Aug. 22.

Vietnam and Indonesia sign rice supply agreement


Ha Noi, Aug. 22 (VNA) -- An agreement on rice supply between Viet Nam and Indonesia was signed in Ha Noi during the one-day visit by Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri today, Aug. 22.

Signatories to the accord were General Director of the Southern Food Corporation Duong Thi Ngoc Trieu of Viet Nam and Director of the Indonesia National Reserve Department Widjanarko Puspoyo.

President Tran Duc Luong and his Indonesian counterpart witnessed the signing ceremony.

ROK roll out red carpet to welcome Vietnamese President


Ha Noi, Aug. 23 (VNA) -- A State welcome ceremony for Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong was held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, today, Aug. 23.

The Vietnamese leader began his four-day official visit to the RoK from Aug. 22 as guest of President Kim Dea-jung. The visit, the first ever by a Vietnamese State leader since the two countries established diplomatic ties in December 1992, aims at taking bilateral ties and cooperation to a higher level of "comprehensive partnership".
