Peace and Stability Vital for Development

East Asian Leaders Issue Joint Declaration

After the meetings of ASEAN +3 and ASEAN +1, the leaders of the ten ASEAN countries, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea signed a joint declaration on East Asian co-operation.

The announcement noted, "Diplomatic and trade relation in Eastern Asia have become more and more developed, which has created many opportunities for co-operation. Many new factors have pushed peace, stability and prosperity in the region".

Vietnam establishes diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia

Ha Noi, Oct. 22 (VNA) -- Viet Nam and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish bilateral diplomatic relation at ambassadorial level.

A joint communique to this effect was signed in New York on Oct. 21 by Vietnamese and Saudi Arabian Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, Ngo Quang Xuan and Fawzi Shobokshi, respectively.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits Mongolia

Nhan Dan Oct. 3--Prime Minister Phan Van Khai paid a working visit to Mongolia on October 2 at the invitation of his Mongolian counterpart R. Amarjargal, after Mr. Khai's Scandinavian tour.

Mr. Khai held talks with Mr. R. Amarjargal and Mongolian Parliament Chairman R. Gonchigdorj on measures to strengthen the friendship and co-operation between the two countries as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

VNA Sept. 29 -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai arrived in Copenhagen at 11:30 hrs (local time) today (Sept. 29), starting his official visit to Denmark, the last leg of his tour of four Scandinavian countries.

Vietnamese PM Phan Van Khai and his Danish counterpart Paul Nyrup Rasmussen held talks this afternoon.

Vietnamese and Norwegian Prime Ministers hold talk

VNA Sept. 27 -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai held talks with his Norwegian counterpart Kjell Magre Bondevik in Oslo, Norway, right after his arrival in Norway on Sept. 27.
