Viet Nam thanks the United Nations and its agencies


Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Viet Nam thanks the United Nations and its agencies for their close and effective cooperation in assisting Viet Nam's integration into the international community.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam told representatives of the UN agencies at a meeting in Ha Noi on Oct. 23 that the Vietnamese Government and people would continue the vigorious pursuit of the renovation process, aiming to make their ambitious modernization and industrialization programme a complete success.

Vietnam supports draft resolution on nuclear disarmament


Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Mr. Hoang Chi Trung, Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations on behalf of ASEAN countries at the First Committee of 55th UNGA, expressed full support for two draft resolutions under consideration by the First Committee, namely "Nuclear Disarmament" and "Follow-up to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons".

Vietnam delegation in 15th Conference of Int'l Lawyers


Oct. 21 (VNA)-- The International Association of Democratic Lawyers held its 15th conference in Havana, Cuba, in the presence of nearly 1,000 representatives of 50 countries. The five-day conference ended on Oct.20 with the release of resolutions on various issues, including the demand that US authorities compensate Viet Nam.

Viet Nam was represented at the conference by a delegation headed by Luu Van Dat, Vice President and General Secretary of the Viet Nam Lawyers' Association.

Oct. 21 (VNA) -- Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Nations Pham Binh Minh has called for an immediate end to violence in the Middle East.

He made the demand at an emergency session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Oct. 20 which was attended by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and representatives from 50 countries.

Vietnam attaches importance to Asia-Europe cooperation


Oct. 23 (VNA) -- Viet Nam attaches importance to Asia-Europe cooperation, in line with its external policies of independence, sovereignty, diversification, multilateralization and world integration.

So said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam in an interview with the national daily Nhan Dan on Oct. 23 on the outcome of the third Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM III) in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, from Oct. 19-21, which he attended as head of the Vietnamese delegation.

Ha Noi, Oct. 17 (VNA) -- Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika paid an official visit to Viet Nam from Oct. 15-18 at the invitation of President Tran Duc Luong.

Vietnam and Algerian Presidents discuss ways to boost relations

Cooperation with world community for child care and protection


Oct. 13 (VNA) -- Viet Nam gives high priority to child care and protection, affirmed a Vietnamese representative to the United Nations at the UN's Third Committee discussion on promoting and protecting the rights of children in New York.

The Vietnamese representative spoke of the Vietnamese Government's efforts to implement a policy for socio-economic development and political stability, which gives high priority to child care and protection.
