FM Spokeswoman on new evidence of ruthless of US war in VN


Ha Noi, March 1 (VNA) -- The spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry has described a conversation recorded on a cassette tape between the then U.S. President Richard Nixon and his National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger on April 27, 1972 as providing new evidence of the extreme ruthlessness of a number of warlike people in the then U.S. administration.

Deputy PM Nguyen Tan Dung meets US Pacific commander-in-chief


Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam pursues an external policy of diversification and multilaterlisation and wishes to befriend other countries in the interests of peace, stability and development in the world.

Deputy Prime Minister Dung was talking with the United States Pacific Commander-in-Chief Admiral Dennis Cutler Blair, during a reception in Hanoi on February 1.

Mr Dung welcomed Admiral Dennis Blair's visit, describing it as an important step in accelerating the multi-faceted co-operation between Vietnam and the US.

Vietnam-U.S Society denounces shameless fabrication


Ha Noi, Jan. 19 (VNA) -- The Viet Nam-U.S. Society described a recent article entitled "Terrifying Abuses in Viet Nam", carried by the Washington Times on Jan. 13, as a shameless fabrication.

In a letter dated Jan. 19 to the Washington Times' editorial board, the Viet Nam-U.S. Society pointed out that the paper's Jan. 13 article written by Michael Benge, a senior adviser to the Montagnard Human Rights Organisation, distorted the situation in central highland region of Tay Nguyen, and slandered Viet Nam's policies toward ethnic minority people.

Vietnam resumes basa catfish exports to US market


Ha Noi, Jan. 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam resumed exports of basa catfish to U.S. markets earlier this month.

The Thanh Viet Aquatic Product Processing Factory in Can Tho Mekong delta province shipped 20 tonnes of basa catfish to the United States in the first week of January, according to the daily Saigon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon).

U.S is Vietnam's second biggest shrimp buyer

Ha Noi, Jan. 9 (VNA) -- The U.S. has become Viet Nam's second biggest shrimp buyer after Japan, the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors has announced.

The source added the U.S. import accounts for 33.1 percent of Viet Nam's total export of shrimp.

However, according to the American customs office, Viet Nam stood behind Thailand and India on the list of shrimp exporters to the U.S.

Shrimp made up around one third of the country's earnings from export of aquatic products of USD 1.8 billion in 2001.--VNA.

Vietnam prepares for BTA implementation in financial sector


Ha Noi, Jan.9 (VNA) -- A senior official from the Finance Ministry said that Viet Nam's financial sector is actively preparing everything for implementing all commitments stated in the Viet Nam-U.S trade agreement (BTA) which took effect on Dec.10 last year.

"These commitments concern taxation, insurance business, accounting and auditing work and other financial matters," said Mrs Le Thi Bang Tam, Deputy Minister of Finance, in a recent interview with Lao Dong newspaper.

Trade Ministry plans more agriculture products to the U.S

Ha Noi, Dec. 30 (VNA) -- The Ministry of Trade is investigating ways of increasing the role of agricultural products in Viet Nam's exports to the United States.

North America is the third biggest export market for Vietnamese farm produce after Asia-Pacific and Europe and it is likely to grow further as the Viet Nam-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) starts to have an effect.

Vietnamese agricultural products, including cashew nuts, coffee, rubber, and vegetables, currently account for only 5 percent of the country's total exports to the U.S.

5 telecommunication projects call for U.S investment

Garment and textile export reach 2.15 billion


Ha Noi, Dec. 17 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is expected to earn USD 2.15 billion from garment and textiles exports this year, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, says the Viet Nam Garment and Textiles Association.

It posted an export value of USD 1.87 billion in 2000.
The country's leading exporters include Viet Tien, Nha Be, Phong Phu, Ha Noi Garment and Textiles, Viet Thang, and Thai Tuan.

Their products have been shipped to Japan, the European Union (EU), the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and other countries.
