VN replies on Bui Thi Minh Hang’s case

(VNA) A decision to send Bui Thi Minh Hang to the Thanh Ha Education Centre in northern Vinh Phuc province for 24 months is in line with Vietnamese law.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi made the statement on Jan. 6 while answering reporters’ question on Vietnam ’s response to criticisms against this decision.

In Vietnam, no one is arrested for expressing opinions, Nghi said, adding that Hanoi authorities reported that Hang had caused public disorder many times./.

Regarding remarks made by UK, US and EU toward recent trials in Vietnam

In response to question from the media concerning remarks made by representatives of the UK, the US and the EU toward the recent trials of Vietnamese law violators, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga on January 22nd, 2010 said:
 
Vietnam is a country under the rule of law. Vietnam handles acts that violate the law and undermine the national security to protect the rule of law and safeguard the common society interests of peace, stability and development.

The United Nations and participating countries have said that Vietnam’s periodic review on human rights had been well prepared and involved many State agencies and socio-political as well as professional organisations, said Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Vietnam's reaction to Human Right Watch's report

On 21st Jan 2009, the spokesman of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Mr.Le Dung answered to question regarding Vietnam's reaction to Human Rights Watch's report which accused Vietnam of the suppression of the Khme Krom community in the Mekong Delta:

This is not the first time that Human Rights Watch releases false information about Vietnam. It is necessary to reiterate that in Vietnam, all fundamental rights and freedoms of the people, including the freedom to religion and belief and the freedom of expression are clearly enshrined in the Constitution (Articles 69 and 70).
