PM Phan Van Khai reaffirms ASEAN policy


Ha Noi, Nov. 4 (VNA) -- The Cambodia daily has carried an interview with Viet Nam's Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on the occasion of the 8th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Phnom Phenh.

Visit marks new step forward in Vietnam-France relations


Ha Noi, Nov. 1 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong's visit to France has brought the Viet Nam-France relationship to a new plane and marked a new step in the development of bilateral relations, said Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien.

Areas that have particularly benefited include credit, finance, science and technology and journalism, he said.

Nien, who was accompanying the President on his Oct. 28-31 visit, granted an interview to Viet Nam News Agency on the results of the visit.

France, Viet Nam's partner in development

Paris, Oct. 29 (VNA) -- France is Viet Nam's leading partner in development, trade exchange, investment, health care, education, personnel training and tourism, said President Tran Duc Luong.

Luong, arrived in Paris on Monday for a four-day official visit to France, held talks with French President Jacques Chirac in Paris on Tuesday.
The two presidents informed each other of the situation in their respective countries, exchanged views on the future of the Viet Nam-France relationship and international and regional issues of common concern.

Vietnamese leaders' visits strengthen foreign relations

Ha Noi, Oct. 28 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong's visit to France, and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Cuba, both of which start today, reflect the Vietnamese Government's pursuit of diversification in international relations.

The national daily Nhan Dan (People) in an editorial today called the first ever visit by a Head of State of Viet Nam to France since the two countries established diplomatic relations as a milestone, marking a turning point in both depth and width in the Viet Nam-France relationship.

Viet Nam pledges close cooperation in fighting terrorism

Ha Noi, Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Viet Nam renewed its anti-terrorism policy during the Interpol general assembly this week.

The annual assembly opened in Yaoundo, Cameroon, on Oct. 21 with police chiefs and law officials representing 171 Interpol member countries.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Le The Tiem, Deputy Minister of Public Security stressed the country's stand, that no terrorist force would be allowed to operate in the country's territory and that cooperation with other countries in detecting and apprehending terrorists would be strengthened.

Viet Nam's integration into APEC


Ha Noi, Oct. 23 (VNA) -- Upon realising the importance of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for the development of regional economies, Viet Nam on June 15, 1996 officially applied to join the forum.
The decision to admit Viet Nam was first accepted at the fourth APEC Summit in Subic, the Philippines, on Nov. 30, 1996.

The country on April 25, 1997 has present at a guest at the APEC working groups on trade promotion, science and industrial technology, and agricultural technology cooperation.

Vietnam strengthen ties with Francophone member countries

Beirut, Oct. 20 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong has expressed the wish to boost cooperative ties with Lebanon, Switzerland, Canada and Burkina Faso during his meetings with leaders of these countries on the sideline of the Francophone Summit in Beirut.

At the talks with President Emile Lahoud, the Vietnamese leader spoke highly of the achievements recorded by the Lebanese people in their national reconstruction and economic development in recent years.

Party leader's visits to Russia and Belarus successful


Ha Noi, Oct. 16 (VNA) -- Not only sharing spiritual and sentimental potentials, Viet Nam, Russia and Belarus also have great potential for cooperation in commerce-economy, science-technology and training, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan in an interview with the press in Ha Noi today, Oct. 16.

Mr. Vu Khoan was a member of the delegation accompanying Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh during his visits to Russia from Oct. 9-13 and Belarus from Oct. 14-16.

Viet Nam's current foreign policy reiterated


Ha Noi, Oct. 16 (VNA) -- Shortly after his successful trip to Japan early this month, Communist Party of Viet Nam General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has travelled to Russia and Belarus, two of Viet Nam's traditional friendly countries, to materialise the foreign policy of promoting multi-lateral relations.
