Nearly 7,700 enterprises set up in HCM City

Ho Chi Minh City, Jan. 3 (VNA) -- An additional 7,694 enterprises were established in Ho Chi Minh City in 2002 with a combined registered capital of 12,599 billion VND (839.9 million USD).

The figures showed year-on-year increases of 15 percent in the number of enterprises and 28 percent in capital.

Viet Nam exports USD 16.5 billion of goods this year


Ha Noi, Dec. 27 (VNA) -- This year, Viet Nam has obtained an export value of 16.5 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of nearly 10 percent.
Ho Chi Minh City contributed 8.4 billion USD to the figure.

Twelve of the country's 15 main export products earned more export revenues than last year, including handicraft and fine art articles, coal, cashew nuts, and rubber. Three biggest foreign currency earners are crude oil with more than 3.2 billion USD, garments with 2.7 billion USD and aquatic products with more than 2 billion USD.

Deputy Trade Minister speaks on Viet Nam's joining AFTA

Ha Noi, Dec. 27 (VNA)-- Viet Nam will add 760 more items to the list of tariff cut to below 20 percent in 2003 in line with its commitment to the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), said Deputy Trade Minister Luong Van Tu.

The AFTA treaty signed by 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) fixed the deadline in 2006 for Viet Nam to cut import tariffs on almost all products down to below 5 percent.

Viet Nam pledges more favorable conditions for foreign investors

Ha Noi, Dec. 16 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has pledged its stronger support for foreign investors, as well as its pursuit of constant policies towards foreign direct investment (FDI) businesses.

The commitment was renewed by Deputy Finance Minister Le Thi Bang Tam at the fifth dialogue in Ha Noi on Monday between her ministry and FDI investors in Viet Nam.

Donors pledge US$ 2.5 billion for Viet Nam

Ha Noi, Dec. 11 (VNA) -- The donors' community has pledged a total aid of 2.5 billion USD for Viet Nam in 2003, an increase of 4.5 percent over 2002.

This was revealed by Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc with the press after the 10th Consultative Group Meeting closed in Ha Noi today.

"Leading donors include Japan, the World Bank, the European Union, and the Asia Development Bank," he added.

Viet Nam Airlines plans more flights during Tet


Ha Noi, Dec. 12 (VNA) -- The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, plans to add more flights on international and domestic air routes during "Tet", the traditional Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 1 of 2003.

The extra flights will be conducted from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 next year, a month before and after "Tet".

Foreign investors to expand operations in Viet Nam

Ha Noi, Dec. 12 (VNA) -- Eighty percent of 124 respondents of a poll of business sentiment said that they planned to expand company operations in Viet Nam in the next three years because of the country's positive long-term outlook, a growing local market and political stability.

The poll was conducted by a forum of business leaders, international donors and government officials ahead of the annual Consultative Group Meeting held in Ha Noi on Dec. 10-11.

Government pledges to boost expansion of private sector


HA NOI (December 6) — The Vietnamese Government is working harder to further liberalise its economy to overcome problems private businesses have faced in getting their operations off the ground, a private business meeting was told on Thursday in Ha Noi.

Policy makers at the meeting pledged to work towards speedier reforms for a more competitive, broader-based private sector to cater to local and export markets.

Nearly 6,900 new enterprises set up in HCM City

Ho Chi Minh City, Dec. 3 (VNA) -- An additional 6,883 new enterprises had been established in Ho Chi Minh City by the end of November with a combined registered capital of 11,025 billion VND (720.5 million USD).

The figures showed a year-on-year increase of 11 percent in the number of enterprises and 20 percent in capital.
