Victims of shrimp case are again Vietnam's poor farmers
On December 31, 2003, in response to questions from Bloomberg News, Washington Post and News House correspondents asking for comments on dumping petitions filed by the Southern Shrimp Alliance, the spokesman of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States said:
"This is no good news to shrimp producers and exporters in countries subject to these dumping charges including Vietnam as well as to American shrimp importers and consumers. It is saddening that the actual victims of these lawsuits in regard to Vietnam, as in the previous irrational catfish case, are again poor farmers. Vietnam wishes to develop fair and mutually beneficial trade ties and does not want to see increased protection."
