US Baseball Team Arrives In Ho Chi Minh City
A 20-member US baseball delegation arrived in Hanoi Tuesday sponsored by the US-Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund to introduce baseball and promote understanding between the two nations.
The team is to offer Vietnamese children baseball coaching and equipment as part of an on-going effort by the Memorial Fund to foster teamwork between two countries once divided by war, announced Jan C. Scruggs, founder and president of the fund.
The US team will also join an inauguration ceremony of the first baseball field in Vietnam in Dong Ha town of Quang Tri Province, where the team is to observe operations of the Memorial Fund’s humanitarian effort, Project RENEW™, a landmine awareness and removal program.
During the visit from January 17-25, the team will travel to Hanoi, Hue, Dong Ha, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Mekong Delta.
Accompanying the delegation to Vietnam is Danny Graves, major League Baseball’s first-ever Vietnamese-born player.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, established in 1979, is a non-profit organization.
