Remains of US Servicemen Killed in Vietnam Head Home

DaNang_064.jpgVietnam handed over Saturday the remains of five US servicemen killed in the American War and a box of personal effects to US representatives at Da Nang airport in the central region.

The remains and effects, which were initially examined in Ha Noi, will be flown to Hawaii for further identification.

They were recovered in southern and central Vietnam with assistance from local people during the 80th and 81st joint field activities between March and June this year.

To date, the remains of 834 US soldiers have been repatriated on 96 occasions since 1973.

Representatives of the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Marine and officials from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) attended the repatriation ceremony.

A representative of the US Government expressed thanks and hailed the humanitarian policy, goodwill and effective cooperation of the Vietnamese government and people.
