Since normalisation 13 years ago, the Vietnam-US relations have made important progress in various areas. This has laid increasingly solid foundation for the two countries to be self-confident in the future.
Today, Vietnam is known as a peaceful and stable country and a dynamic market economy. The country has been extensively and intensively integrating into the global economy, promoting its renewal cause and creating the most favourable conditions for domestic and foreign businesses and investors, including those from the US, to do business.
Being a responsible member of the international community and prompted by the thousand-year tradition of peace-loving, Vietnam has been doing its utmost to contribute to the maintenance of peace, stability and cooperation for mutual development in the region and the world at large.
I strongly believe that, given the enormous potential and strong determination of both sides, the friendly and constructive partnership and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the US on the basis of equality, mutual respect and benefit will develop under a more in-depth and effective framework, living up to the aspiration of our peoples and contributing to sustainable development and prosperity of our two nations.
I am delighted to visit your beautiful country at the invitation of President G.W. Bush. On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, allow me to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to the US Government and people. May the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the USA continue to flourish.
