A comment on "Reconnaissance mission"

I am now living in Viet Nam and am very sad that our government is thinking of passing a bill that will hurt this country and our own. That is the human rights bill on Vietnam. I have been here 3 years and know many Vietnamese police and government people and I have never seen any of the things that I hear coming out of Congress about Vietnam.

True Vietnam has a long way to go yet to make things better, but then so do we. We who live in glass house should not throw stones. The leaders of Vietnam are working hard to change things on human rights, but much of this takes time and Money which they have little of and many things to do. I think that these people that say Vietnam has a very bad human rights record do not know what they are talking about and should look in the mirror first and also visit this country to see for themselves. Below is an article from a paper in the States I am inclosing. If there is anything I can answer for you about the human rights here, please let me know. Please for the sake of both countries talk to the other Senators and Congressmen about this issue. It would be a very bad mistake if this bill were to pass.

Sincerely Yours,
