Airline Marks One Year of Direct Vietnam-US flights

United_Airlines347.jpgUS airline giant United Airlines marked Friday one year of the start of direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco.
“We are doing well in Vietnam, even in times of bird flu outbreaks,” Joe Mannix, head of the carrier’s HCMC office, said.

Bookings were especially heavy just before the Lunar New Year (Tet), he said further.

The airline operates a daily HCMC- San Francisco service with a stopover in Hongkong.

Mannix said a cultural festival, open to all, would be held Sunday at the Reunification Palace to mark the occasion.

United Airlines became the first American carrier to land in Vietnam since 1975 when its flight arrived in HCMC from San Francisco December 10 last year.

It is now planning to launch direct flights between Hanoi and San Francisco.
