Vietnam pledges to contribute more to UNESCO's activities

Ha Noi, Oct. 17 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is willing to join other countries in contributing more to the action programmes of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem at the organisation's 31st session in Paris, France, on Oct. 16.

Trade Minister Vu Khoan on results of PM's visits to Europe


Ha Noi, Oct. 17 (VNA) -- There is every reason now to say that the recent tour of Spain, Germany and the Netherlands by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has been a success, said Trade Minister Vu Khoan.

He further said that the tour succeeded, both bilaterally and multilaterally, laying the foundation for long-term cooperation and contributing to raising Viet Nam's position in the international arena.

FM of Vietnam and China affirm cooperation in new situation

Ha Noi, Oct. 17 (VNA) -- Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien and his Chinese counterpart, Tang Jiaxuan, have affirmed that in the new situation Viet Nam and China should strengthen solidarity, boost cooperation, and well implement agreements reached by leaders of the two countries.

The two FMs met in Shanghai, China, on Tuesday, Oct. 16. They appreciated the fine development of the Sino-Vietnamese cooperation over the past time.

VN supports complete elimination of mass destruction weapon

PM Phan Van Khai hopes for further development ties with Germany

Ha Noi, Oct. 11 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has expressed his wish that Viet Nam and Germany would strengthen their cooperative ties, particularly in trade, investment, culture, science and technology, on the basis of long-term stability and mutual benefits.

PM Khai held talks with German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Oct. 10, right after his arrival in Germany for a five-day visit, to exchange views on bilateral relationship, and regional and international issues of common concern.

<B>Vietnam strongly opposed terrorist acts</B>

Ha Noi, Oct. 11 (VNA) -- "Viet Nam strongly opposes terrorist acts and supports efforts to make humankind free from terrorism," said the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry in Ha Noi on Oct. 11.

The spokesperson was answering a question raised by Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the country's position toward terrorist acts against Viet Nam as other countries are taking cooperative measures against terrorism.

Spain wants to cooperate with Vietnam on long-term basis

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is one of three Asian countries that Spain gives cooperation priority to, said Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in an interview granted to a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the occasion of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Spain from Oct. 8-9.

He said that the signing of a framework agreement on development cooperation which includes regulations on the establishment of a joint committee proved that Spain's desire for cooperation with Viet Nam is constant and long term.

PM Phan Van Khai visits Germany

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was given an official welcome ceremony in Berlin, Germany, today, Oct. 10, the first of a five-day official visit to the country as a guest of German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

After the welcome ceremony, PM Khai and his German counterpart held talks and had a press briefing. The two leaders briefed the press on their talks dealing with bilateral cooperation and agreements.
