Gov't officials and business circles discuss E-Gov't

Ha Noi, Oct. 27 (VNA) -- How to operate an e-Government in Viet Nam was the main topic of discussion by Government officials and business people in Ha Noi on Oct. 26.

Participants at a talk, organised jointly by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Government Office, held that the e-Government model is a key point in the process of socialising information technology (IT), promoting democracy, and strengthening the administrative apparatus at the grassroots level.

In Viet Nam, the e-Government model is expected to be put into operation soon to improve administrative management and to help businesses and people have timely access to the Party and Government's policies.

Realising the importance of the model, the Vietnamese Government has built and promulgated a number of documents to provide legal basis for the construction of an e-Government with the latest development being the Government's approval of a project on applying IT in State administrative management in the 2001-2005 period.

The participants recommended that the Government provide early guidance on IT application to ministries, branches, provinces, and cities and encourage them to use the Internet for e-Government transactions. To ensure e-Government operations, it is necessary to apply the model on a trial basis in some provinces and cities having qualified IT infrastructure facilities hence the need to raise investment in developing IT infrastructure and training IT experts and technical designers.

They also dealt with information security and legality, the application of one Vietnamese language font, and the rights and responsibility of businesses subscribing to the e-Government.--VNA
