Spokeswoman on Congressional Resolution 295

Ha Noi, May 4 -- Spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry Mme Phan Thuy Thanh, referring to the House's May 3 resolution calling for the release of all religious and political prisoners in Viet Nam and a removal of the 4th provision of the country's Constitution, said the US House of Representatives made an impudent interference into Viet Nam's internal affairs and a violation of international law.

FM Spokesperson on Addressing War Consequences

Those countries that conducted and took part in the aggressive wars against Vietnam should take concrete measures, especially in the form of practical and effective co-operation with the country, to settle the aftermath of the war in Viet Nam.

So said a foreign ministry spokesperson in reply to the Vietnam News Agency's query on the Government's viewpoint regarding the requests of many foreign mass organisations that their governments officially apologise to and compensate war victims in Vietnam.

Senator John McCain's visit to Vietnam

US senator John McCain congratulated the Vietnamese people over the achievements, they had recorded by and said he wished the two countries would sign a trade treaty soon.

Mr McCain was speaking at a reception given to him by National Assembly Chairman Nong Duc Manh in Hanoi on April 26.

Ha Noi, April 14 -- "The adoption of a resolution on human rights in Vietnam by the External Relations Committee of the US House of Representatives is a gross interference in Vietnam's internal affairs which deliberately distorts reality and goes against the process of improving relations between the two countries." Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh was answering a foreign correspondent's question on the matter on April 13. Her statement is as following:

Additional 65 foreign-invested projects licensed in first quarter

Ha Noi, April 7 (VNA) -- An additional 65 foreign-invested projects were licensed in the first quarter of this year with a combined investment capital of USD 148 million.

Ho Chi Minh City topped the list with 21 projects valued at USD 51 million. Binh Duong province, next to Ho Chi Minh City, had 24 projects licensed worth only USD 16.5 million; and Ha Noi had four projects valued at USD 4.4 million.
