President Clinton welcomed in Vietnam


A state ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Ha Noi morning, Nov. 17, to welcome President William Jefferson Clinton of the United States of America and his spouse, who arrived in the evening of Nov. 16 for a four-day official visit, the first by an American president to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

Present at the ceremony were President Tran Duc Luong and his wife and other senior officials of the Vietnamese State and Government and the Ha Noi administration.

Nov. 16 (VNA) -- Viet Nam supports the draft resolution to be adopted by the UN General Assembly this year under item 42 relating to preparations for a Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Children in Sept., 2001, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau has said.

Mr. Chau affirmed Viet Nam's strong support for and full commitment to making the Special Session a great success at the UN General Assembly in New York on Nov. 15.

US President W.J. Clinton pays official visit to Vietnam


Ha Noi, Nov. 16 (VNA) -- President William Jefferson Clinton of the United States of America arrived in Ha Noi evening, Nov. 16, beginning an official visit to Viet Nam from Nov. 16-19.

The visit is made at the invitation of President Tran Duc Luong.

The US President is accompanied by his spouse Hillary Clinton, his daughter Chelsea Clinton and his mother-in-law Dorothy Rodham.
