Catholic congress urges believers to develop production

France, Viet Nam's partner in development

Paris, Oct. 29 (VNA) -- France is Viet Nam's leading partner in development, trade exchange, investment, health care, education, personnel training and tourism, said President Tran Duc Luong.

Luong, arrived in Paris on Monday for a four-day official visit to France, held talks with French President Jacques Chirac in Paris on Tuesday.
The two presidents informed each other of the situation in their respective countries, exchanged views on the future of the Viet Nam-France relationship and international and regional issues of common concern.

Vietnamese leaders' visits strengthen foreign relations

Ha Noi, Oct. 28 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong's visit to France, and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Cuba, both of which start today, reflect the Vietnamese Government's pursuit of diversification in international relations.

The national daily Nhan Dan (People) in an editorial today called the first ever visit by a Head of State of Viet Nam to France since the two countries established diplomatic relations as a milestone, marking a turning point in both depth and width in the Viet Nam-France relationship.

U.S pastor gives positive look at Viet Nam's religious freedom

Ha Noi, Oct. 28 (VNA) -- Thomas Stobin, an American pastor, has made positive remarks on Viet Nam's religious situation after he returned from a visit to Viet Nam.

The Viet Nam Protestant Church's (VPC) religious freedom is ensured and it is allowed to preach in the church, Thomas told the Voice of America Radio in an interview on the religious situation in Viet Nam.

He said since 1975 the VPC has strongly developed among the highlanders in the Central Highlands as well as the Kinh majority in lowland areas.

Vietnamese women fare well in efforts for gender equality


Ha Noi Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Viet Nam now has up to 19 million women working permanently in all economic sectors. These women account for 48 percent of the country's workforce.

Every year, more than 1.2 million Vietnamese people are provided with jobs thanks to various national programmes on employment and hunger elimination and poverty reduction. Women make up 50 percent of the beneficiaries.

Ha Noi, Oct. 25 (VNA) -- In Semptember 2000, President Tran Luong pledged the nation to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. Ha Noi, Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Positive achievements have been recorded in administrative reform in the first nine months of this year in the fields of institutional change and workforce organisation and streamlining.

The government initiated an administative reform programme for the 2001-02 period, including pilot implementation of new mechanisms.

Viet Nam pledges close cooperation in fighting terrorism

Ha Noi, Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Viet Nam renewed its anti-terrorism policy during the Interpol general assembly this week.

The annual assembly opened in Yaoundo, Cameroon, on Oct. 21 with police chiefs and law officials representing 171 Interpol member countries.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Le The Tiem, Deputy Minister of Public Security stressed the country's stand, that no terrorist force would be allowed to operate in the country's territory and that cooperation with other countries in detecting and apprehending terrorists would be strengthened.
