ASEAN trade officials seek stronger ties with US

(VNA) Senior trade officials from eight member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, known as ASEAN, began a visit to the US on May 2 with the aim of enhancing the bloc’s trade relations with the world’s largest economy.

The participants include Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu, trade ministers from Indonesia , Cambodia , Laos , Malaysia and Thailand , trade deputy ministers from Brunei and the Philippines , and ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan.

PM Dung meets world leaders outside nuke summit

(VNA) Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held separate meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, US on April 13, local time.

During his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, PM Dung expressed delights at the fine progresses in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Canada . The two leaders agreed to take concrete measures to further promote the bilateral ties in the future.

Int’l consensus needed on nuclear security: PM

(VNA) International partners must reach a consensus to ensure nuclear security, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the close of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington on April 13, local time.

In his opinion, cooperation needs to take into account socio-economic conditions and the level of the application of nuclear energy in each country, especially developing ones.

Vietnam supports nuclear disarmament goals

(VNA) Vietnam strongly supports nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons to reach a nuclear weapon-free world, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

PM Dung made the remarks while meeting with US Vice President Joseph Biden and other heads of delegations on April 12 on the sideline of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington from April 12-15.

PM Dung along with the participants discussed priority issues of international community regarding nuclear security over the past years.

Vietnam makes safety top priority in nuclear energy

(VNA) Vietnam gives top priority to safety and security in developing the application of nuclear energy, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington on April 13.
Consequently, Vietnam has actively built and completed a legal basis and a management agency system on control, safety and security in using nuclear materials and radioactive substances, he added.

PM meets with foreign leaders at nuclear summit

(VNA) Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on April 12 held separate meetings with leaders of Japan , New Zealand, Morocco and the European Union (EU) on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in the US.
Meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Yukio Hatoyama, PM Dung thanked and spoke highly of the practical assistance Japan has extended to Vietnam ’s national construction and development.

He also urged the Japanese Government to increase its official development assistance (ODA) to and help Vietnam carry out major infrastructure projects.

On February 24, 2010, the Embassy of Vietnam in Washington D.C hosted the 4th Meeting of ASEAN Agricultural Attachés (the AAA Meeting). The AAA Meeting is an informal gathering of agricultural, economic and trade officials from Washington-based ASEAN Embassies who meet on a regular basis, either quarterly or permitted by Embassies’ agenda, to share information on ASEAN member countries’ agro-trade relations with the United States and to discuss current and future issues pertaining to the relevant US government rules and policies.
