Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong visits Oregon

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong and John Kitzhaber, Governor of the US’ Oregon state, have discussed measures to further enhance cooperation between the two sides.

Both host and guest on June 18 highly valued the flourishing bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields, including education-training, trade-investment and search and rescue work. They also highlighted the great progress in Vietnam-US ties, noticeably negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

They agreed to back an initiative on setting up a mechanism for collaboration between Vietnam and Oregon state based on their existing relations and developing new fields for cooperation.

During his tour of the US state, the Vietnamese diplomat visited the Portland State University and attended a seminar at the Hatfield School of the Government on ways to promote cooperation between the two sides in the time ahead.

He also met with several important figures of the two corporations, Nike and Intel, whose branches are operating effectively in Vietnam.

At the meeting, business representatives spoke highly of timely measures taken by the Vietnamese Government to help riot-affected firms promptly resume their normal operations.

In addition, Cuong had a working session with the Oregon Army National Guard during which the two sides reviewed outcomes of the cooperation and the sharing of experience in search and rescue work.

With its population of nearly 4 million, Oregon posted a gross domestic product of 220 billion USD last year.-VNA
