Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong met with US Eximbank

On November, 22nd, 2011, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong met with key leaders of  US Ex-Im Bank.

At the meeting, Chairman and President of Ex-Im Bank Mr. Fred Hochberg has indicated that Viet Nam is one of the 9 targeted countries for Ex-Im Bank. Progress however has been slow and the Bank wants to speed up lending to projects in Vietnam. The Bank seeks cooperation with the Vietnam Embassy in identifying potential projects for lending, attracting more participation from Vietnam and US companies, including from the private sectors, with focus on priority areas such as public-private partnership, renewable energy, infrastructure and nuclear energy.
 
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong affirmed Vietnam's desire to attract more investment funding from foreign partners to help in the socio-economic development efforts of Vietnam in the next growth period. The Ambassador welcomed the cooperation and assistance accorded by Ex-Im Bank to Vietnam and highlighted the recent agreement signed between Vietnam Development Bank and Ex-Im Bank extending 1 billion USD credit line for environmental friendly energy projects in Vietnam.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong and Chairman Fred Hochberg agreed to strengthen cooperation to speed up lending from Ex-Im Bank to projects in Viet Nam as well as to identify potential projects that would suit the Bank's lending strategy. They set up a joint working group composed of officials and experts from the Embassy and Ex-Im Bank to further discuss specific measures.
