Deputy PM presses for faster land allocation to ethnic groups
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged local authorities of the Central Highlands Dak Doa District to speed up their efforts in allocating farm land to ethnic people in a bid to lift them out of poverty.
The Deputy Prime Minister made the request during a visit to Dak Doa District in Gia Lai Province on Dec.18, part of his working tour of the Central Highlands provinces, said a local official.
Although Mr. Dung complimented Dak Doa District leaders and people on their socio-economic achievements, especially in their fight against poverty and illiteracy, he stressed that more efforts were needed to help more ethnic people lift themselves out of poverty.
The allocation of farmland to poor ethic households was not as quick as expected, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted. Local authorities are expected to accelerate the process, he added.
Mr. Dung also urged the local authorities to speed up their efforts in raising public awareness about the conspiracies of hostile forces always trying to undermine national unity by provoking social unrest in the Central Highlands.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s visit came as the local people, mostly from the Bahnar and Ja rai ethnic groups, were busy preparing for Christmas.
Mr. Dung asked the Dak Doa District Party Committee and local authorities to do everything in their power to provide an enjoyable Christmas for the Christian communities in the region.
Roman Catholics and Protestants number 10,870 and 21,675 respectively, constituting 30 percent of the district’s population, the official said.
