Vietnam's top exporters to be promoted online

Both domestic and foreign national trading promotion agencies will start displaying information about reputable Vietnamese exporters on their websites, reported the Ministry of Trade.
The Ministry said it will select successful Vietnamese and foreign exporters to feature on its website and other trade related sites organized by the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency and the country's overseas trade offices.

The on-line advertisement plan is designed to popularize Vietnamese businesses among potential foreign partners and to get them in contact with Vietnamese exporters.

The Ministry also hopes to encourage domestic exporters to focus on building their reputations in the world business community.

Selected businesses must be direct exporters and profitable for the last two years, the Ministry said. They are also required to specialize in producing and exporting garments, footwear, rice, coffee, pepper, tea, processed farm products, seafood, handicrafts, fruits and vegetables, woodworks, plastics, processed foods, engineering products and ship-building materials.

Exporters who were awarded for outstanding export achievements last year, meet the international standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Total Quality Management (TQM), and won awards at international fairs and exhibitions will get priority in the selection, the Ministry said.

Earlier this week the Trade Ministry also announced four criteria for selecting prestigious exporters of 2004. Businesses must have directly exported their products for the last two years; not violated the law; not have complaints lodged against them by their partners, and have a direct export turnover of at least $US 1 to 20 million per year.

The opportunity for selection will be presented to domestic and foreign-invested companies who produce and export 16 key products, including crude oil, coal, rice, coffee, tea, pepper, cashew nuts, seafood, fruit and vegetables, rubber, garments and textiles, footwear, electronics and computers, handicrafts, wooden furniture, and bikes and spare parts.
