Ha Noi, July 9 (VNA) - The number of foreign arrivals in Viet Nam has increased thanks to the country's successful control of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak.

The achievement was also attributed to the Viet Nam Administration of Tourism's advertisement programme on Vietnamese land and people, and the introduction of new tourism products in key markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, France, Britain, Germany, Australia, Northern Europe and North America.

The tourism industry has also implemented a promotion programme after SARS from May to October 2003 and plans to focus on major events, including the Ha Long Tourism Year 2003 and the 100th founding anniversary of Sapa tourist town. In particular, the upcoming SEA Games is considered as a great opportunity for the tourism industry.

All preparations for the event are in the pipeline, with accommodation for 10,000 athletes, coaches, visitors and journalists, as well as tourist products and attractive tours.
