Foreign trade bank offers international credit cards


The Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) has announced that it started launching international credit cards, named Vietcombank - American Express, on Tuesday.

This is the first time the credit cards, which can be used for payment all over the world, have been issued in Vietnam dong in the country under a sole contract signed between the bank and the US's American Express.

Holders of these cards are entitled to discounts from restaurant and hotel charges as well as transport and recreational service fees. They are also provided with emergency and assurance services, served at over 1,700 travel agencies having business contracts with American Express, and can withdraw money at over 500,000 automatic teller machines worldwide.

A Vietcombank official said the bank will supply offices and organisations accepting payment in Vietnam with these credit cards with such related services as marketing, payment, credit management and customer care to boost their business in Vietnam.

Vietcombank now takes the lead in credit card issuance in the country. (VNA, March 19, 2003)
