Vietnamese missions assigned to assist economic development
Ha Noi, Feb. 11 (VNA) -- Vietnamese representative offices abroad have been assigned tasks to serve the homeland's economic development.
In this regard, a decree to specify these rep. offices' operation was issued by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on Monday.
The four-chapter 16-article decree aims at raising these missions' capacity to serve the national economy in the new stage and to help the Government promote external trade activities and cooperation in investment, development, science and technology, tourism and services.
These rep. offices will protect the State's interests and Vietnamese individuals and organisations' legitimate interests in external economic activities, says the decree.
Therefore, Vietnamese rep. offices have the right to and be responsible for participation in external economic activities.
They will coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Foreign Ministry to lobby for ODA sources and investment for the country.
They will also work with the Ministry of Trade to seek export outlets, organise trade promotion programmes, and provide information on markets, law and business customs of their resident countries for businesses at home.
