Reorganizing state-owned corporations

Ha Noi, Feb. 12 (VNA) -- Three State-owned corporations - Plastics, Leather and Shoes; and Glass and Ceramics - will be disbanded from Wednesday to let its member enterprises start operating in the form of parent-and-son company.

The three corporations have not met the corporation criteria such as capital, active role in their sectors, and proportion of products in the market.

Deputy Industry Minister Bui Xuan Khu affirmed that the disbandment of these corporations was one of measures to accelerate the process of reorganising enterprises and it will not cause any difficulties to the operation of these sectors.

Under a recent Prime Minister decision, corporations on Alcohol, Beer and Beverage; Gem and Gold; Coal; Steel; Chemicals; and Garment and Textiles will also be reorganised.

Deputy Director Ho Xuan Hung of the State Business Renovation Committee said that the reorganising, renovating and improving State-owned enterprises' (SOEs) operation are major tasks for 2003. The Government has asked all corporations to present their SOEs reorganising master plans in the first quarter, Hung added.
Hung noted that in 2003 the ownership of more than 600 SOEs will be changed, with 570 being equitised.
