State President Tran Duc Luong visits Central Highlands province

Ha Noi, Jan. 1 (VNA) -- State President Tran Duc Luong made a three-day visit, ending on Tuesday, to the Central Highlands province of Dac Lac to bring in the new year.

While meeting with provincial leaders, President Luong praised the province's achievements last year and urged them to work harder to make Dac Lac province prosperous economically and strong politically.

The President expressed his strong belief that Dac Lac would make better use of its favourable conditions for fast economic development, saying the province boasts great potential in fertile land suitable for growing trees of high economic value and highly saleable in domestic and overseas markets.

Dac Lac's Se Re Pok river is also suitable for the building of small- and medium-sized hydro electric power plants, Luong told the local officials, calling for greater efforts to apply technological advances into production, particularly bio-technology, to increase productivity.

He said all economic activities should be assessed through their effects on the economy, finance, society, environment, defence and security.

The President made tours of numerous villages and hamlets inhabited by ethnic minority groups as well as called at police and army units stationed in the province to inspect the implementation of the Party and Government's policies on socio-economic development and national defence and security.

At M'Thal hamlet in Earok commune of Ea Sup district and Yang Lanh hamlet, Krong Ana commune of Buon Don district, the President talked with villagers about the Government's policy toward ethnic minority people as well as the local efforts to boost socio-economic growth.

The villagers said they always believe in the Party and Government's policies aimed at improving their living conditions, including educational and medial services as well as cultural activities.

At his meeting with military and security forces, Luong asked them to firmly grasp the Party's policies towards ethnic minority people and its guidelines to boost socio-economic development and maintain national defence and public security in the Central Highlands in the new situation.
