Measures to protect workers in foreign invested businesses
Ha Noi, Dec. 5 (VNA) -- Labour code violations in foreign invested businesses must be strictly punished, said Minister of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Hang.
In an interview with the Lao Dong (Labour) daily on measures to protect workers in foreign invested businesses, Minister Hang said "We have been provided with a legal basis to protect the legitimate rights of labourers.
Employer breaches of these laws and disregard for employees' interests continue to take place mainly because in the past violations have not been strictly punished, Hang said, adding that for serious cases, criminal charges must be brought, not only administrative fines.
The minister also mentioned other reasons such as the language barrier between employers and employees and their poor knowledge of the labour code.
She said her ministry hoped that the two sides would try to settle any dispute negotiation first.
The Labour Code and related legal documents have been translated into English and workshops on law have been organised for employers and employees, Minister Hang noted. She said that mass media including Viet Nam Television, the Voice of Viet Nam radio and the press should help disseminate more facts about this topic.
"We should strive to promote mutual understanding to help further develop foreign invested industrial zones," Hang concluded.
