VASC upholds Gold Cup at APICTA 2002

Viet Nam's Software Development Company VASC under Viet Nam Post & Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT) has overwhelmingly won a Gold Cup at the Asia-Pacific Information Communication Technology Awards (APICTA 2002) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Sept. 2- 6.

APICTA 2002 attracted over 100 products from Viet Nam, China, Australia, the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia, to compete in 13 IT and communication categories.

With the scores of 68/100, Viet Nam's VASC ICP Soft to VASC Orient On-line Network, one of eight Vietnamese software products submitted to the competition, has won the Gold Cup under the category ''Applied Information Technology in Communication and Entertainment''. The VASC's product was highly appreciated by the Board of Examiners.

In press conference held at VASC's Ha Noi-based headquarters, Dr. Nguyen Quy Son, General Secretary of VN Electronic Industries Association (VEIA), said that APICTA is a significant playing-field for Vietnamese enterprises operating in IT and telecommunication sector.

''The prize marks a new phase of Viet Nam's IT and telecommunication development. VEIA has submitted this high result to the Government's Prime Minister and also made a proposal to award all the Vietnamese high-ranked ICT products competed in APICTA 2002'', said Dr. Nguyen Quy Son.

At the press conference, VASC's Director, Chief of Vietnamese delegation to APICTA 2002, Mr Nguyen Anh Tuan briefly presented all the preparation, activities and competition in Kuala Lumpur.

"VASC CA-Payment, VASC's highly-expected product, was listed in category Business Applications. Meanwhile, it was previously taken for the category E-Commerce. Thus, Viet Nam concentrated on two products: VASC ICP-Soft to VASC Orient and VINASAS. However, due to the low IT development in Viet Nam, it is very difficult for VINASAS to surpass 16 other highly-applied products from higher developing countries'', told Mr Nguyen Anh Tuan.

APICTA, an annual event, first organised last year in Malaysia, provides a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs in the information and communication technology sectors in Asia to benchmark their products. It is also regarded as an international standard award given to the winners of software design competition.
