VN strictly observes Int'l convention on civil, political rights

July 15 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has strictly exercised its commitments to the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights, Deputy Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong has told the UN Human Rights Committee.

Speaking at the 75th session of the committee in Geneva last week, the Vietnamese official noted that Viet Nam has paid great attention to building a law-governed state, perfecting the legal framework, strengthening the effectiveness of institutions and carrying out necessary measures to ensure the exercise of human rights by the Vietnamese people.

The Deputy Minister affirmed Viet Nam's determination to enhance the exchange of views, dialogues and international cooperation in this field.

He also briefed the participants of the country's great and comprehensive renewal achievements, namely accelerating socio-economic development, enhancing democracy and broadening international cooperation toward the goals of "a prosperous people, a strong country and an equitable, democratic and civilised society".

Those achievements, Deputy Minister Cuong added, helped create a favourable environment for ensuring people's civil and political rights.

It was the second time that Viet Nam presented a report on the country's implementation of the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights to the committee.--Enditem
