VN's population to increase to 113-122 million by mid century
Ha Noi, June 26 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's population is forecasted to increase to 113-122 million by the middle of this century.
The National Committee for Population and Family Planning said that the figure represents a year-on-year increase of 1 to 1.1 million. At present, people aged under 20 account for 44 percent of the total population of 79 million.
The 2001-2010 national population programme is designed to stabilize the country's population at a reasonable level and raise its human development index. Under the programme, the country is striving to reduce its population growth rate to 1.1 percent and the mortality rate among newly-born babies to 2.5 percent by 2010.--Enditem
