Ordinances on Lawyers, plant protection and quarantine


Ha Noi, August 17 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's Ordinances on Lawyers, and Plant Protection and Quarantine (revised) were introduced at a press briefing held on August 17, by the State President's Office.

These ordinances were approved by the National Assembly Standing Committee of the 10th Legislature on July 25, 2001.

The Ordinance on Plant Protection and Quarantine will serve as a legal basis to strengthen state management in the area, targetting a sustainable agricultural production, good environment, and an ecological balance.

The Ordiance, which consists of seven chapters, 45 articles, will take effect as from January 1, 2002 and replace the 1993 ordinance.

The Ordinance on Laywers was revised to ensure rights of defendants, protect legal concerned persons' rights, and meet individuals and organizations' growing demand for legal consultancy, thus contributing to protecting the socialist legal system.

The Ordinance, containing seven chapters, 45 articles, will take effect as from October 1, 2001 and replace the 1987 Ordinance of Lawyers' Organizations.--VNA
