Vietnam took part in IV Francophone Games

July 17 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has been elected to the leadership board of the Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers of Francophone countries (CONFEJES) at the organisation's irregular session held in Ottawa, Canada, from July 13-16.

Viet Nam and Mauritius island represent Group 7, comprising of Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Asian countries, at the 15-member leadership board.

Viet Nam officially joined the CONFEJES in February this year.

On the occasion, Viet Nam sent a 30-member delegation of artists and athletes to the IVth Francophone Games (the IV Jeux de la Francophonie) from July 14-24 with the participation of 2,600 artists and athletes from 48 countries of the Francophone community.

Viet Nam competes in four of 16 events: dancing, photography, table tennis and judo.

Viet Nam brought to the Games three traditional dances of the Ca Tu, Dao and Thai minority groups.

For sports, the country is represented by two judo artists, Hong Kham Thanh, a Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) silver winner, and Tran Mai Thuy Hong (female), a SEA Games bronze winner; and two table-tennis players, Nguyen Nam Hai and Nguyen Kieu Phuong Uyen (female), both bronze medalists at this year's National Table-Tennis Championships.--VNA
