Education and health care coordinate in expanded immunisation

Ha Noi, June 20 (VNA) -- Pre-school and primary school children will be granted free-of-charge immunisation services during the 2001-2005 period.

The Education and Training Ministry and the Public Health Ministry discussed at a conference in Ha Noi on June 19 measures to coordinate in implementing the expanded vaccination programme for such children.

Children under the age of one will be provided with vaccines against six child killers: tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio and measles. Four new kinds of vaccine against hepatitis B will be granted to children under one, encephalitis B for children aged between 1 and 5, cholera for children aged between 2 and 5, and typhoid for children aged between 3 and 5.

Under-five children in localities benefiting from the national expanded immunisation programme will be vaccinated against polio, and children of between 9 months to ten years old will receive a second measles inoculation.

The two ministries will also focus coordination in organising training courses and spreading information in order to carry out a campaign to provide, for the second time, vaccinations against measles to more than 20 million children of between 9 months to ten years old in 2002 and 2003, with an ultimate goal of eliminating the disease by 2010.--VNA
