Vietnamese FM meets Asian, European counterparts



May 27 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien met his counterparts from China, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, France, Spain, Denmark, Austria and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom, while attending the third Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) for Foreign Ministers in Beijing on May 24 and 25.

FM Nien exchanged views with his counterparts on measures to boost bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economy, science, technology, education and training and coordination among ASEM and between ASEM and other international forums.

During his working session with Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Nien praised the Chinese Government's active contributions to the success of the third ASEM. Both Nien and Tang affirmed their leaders' determination to further develop bilateral friendship and cooperation in politics, economy and culture for mutual benefits as well as for peace and stability in the region and the world.

Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Korea, Singapore, France, Spain, Denmark, Austria and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom stressed that their governments always attach inportance to relations with Viet Nam and its capacity as President of the Standing Committee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and President of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).--VNA
