Vietnam export turnover in May


Ha Noi, May 25 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's export turnover in May reached USD 1.32 billion, according to the General Statistic Office.

The figure brought the country's export turnover in the first five months of this year to more than USD 6.16 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.2 percent.

Export items recording high increases include crude oil, USD 1,415 million and 21.9 percent up; aquatic products, USD 638 million and 49.4 percent up; vegetables, USD 136 million and 142.9 percent up; rubber, USD 56 million and 2.3 percent up; and coal, USD 42.6 million and 9.2 percent up.

The export values of some staples have not matched increases in export volumes. For example, exported rice rose 64.4 percent in quantity but only 23.8 percent in turnover as compared to the same period last year; cashew nut export volume rose 44.6 percent in quantity but reduced 45.6 percent in value.

In the meantime, the country's import turnover is estimated at USD 6.48 billion, 9 percent more than the same period last year.
The domestically-run economic sector's import value was USD 4.65 billion, up by 6.6 percent; and the foreign-invested sector, more than USD 1.8 billion, up by 15.7 percent.

Main import items include machinery, equipment, accessories, petroleum, materials for automotive production, fertilizer, and chemicals.--VNA
