Programme on overseas training from MOET



Ha Noi, April 29 (VNA) -- The Ministry of Education and Training, MoET, plans to select 4,380 people to be sent abroad for training from now to 2005 with fundings from the State budget.

The government has approved a programme on overseas training of scientists and technicians which costs between VND 100 billion and VND 300 billion (USD 20.69 million) a year.

Under the programme, 190 awardees were selected for overseas training last year and 360 others will be selected for this year. Next year, 960 people will be selected with 400 people for doctorate degree training, 200 for M.A. degree, 120 for university degree, and 60, apprentices. The figure will increase to 1,020 a year in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

These awardees will study in the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Australia, Russia, Japan, China, Singapore and other countries.

According to the MoET, 1,440 Vietnamese students are attending post-graduate courses at 15 training establishments set up under 27 cooperation programmes between Vietnamese and foreign universities. By the end of 2000, these establishments had trained 1,857 people with seven having received doctorate degree; 1,542, M.A. degree; 83, Diploma degree; and 225, post-graduate training certificates.--VNA
