Anniversary of Trung Sisters' uprising marked

Ha Noi, Feb. 28 (VNA) -- A celebration to mark the 1961 anniversary of the Trung Sisters' uprising was held at the Hai Ba Trung, Trung Sisters, temple in Ha Noi this morning, Feb. 28.

The celebration began with an art performance reproducing the image of the two sisters, Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, during the uprising, and was followed by a commemorative speech by Mrs Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Chairwoman of the Hai Ba Trung district's People's Committee, and an incense offering in honour of the heroic sisters.

On the sixth day of the second lunar month 1961 years ago, the Trung Sisters led the mass uprising against the Han invaders to wrest independence back to the nation after more than 200 years of foreign rules.

The uprising has gone down to Viet Nam's history as a demonstration of the nation's strength and patriotism as well as the crucial role of the Vietnamese women in national construction and defence.--VNA
