FDI in agricultural sector in 2000


Ha Noi, Dec. 30 (VNA) -- The agriculture sector licensed 73 foreign-invested projects capitalised at nearly USD 1,437 million in 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reports.

Fifty-seven projects were granted loans worth USD 1,000 million and non-refundable aid worth USD 208 million for continued operation. The remaining 16 projects, worth USD 227 million, were signed in 2000 with USD 192 million of non-refundable aid.

As many as 32 projects capitalised at USD 684 million, were involved in agricultural production; 27 projects, worth USD 254 million, in forestry; and 14 projects, worth USD 498 million, in irrigation work.

MARD plans to sign 12 programmes and projects with a total investment capital of USD 400 million in 2001, with key projects being a water resources promotion project worth USD 85 million and a USD 11 million project to plant forests in sandy coastal areas.

The whole country licensed 303 foreign-invested projects, with a total capital of more than USD 1.9 billion this year. This brings the country's foreign-invested projects to 2,601, with a combined valid capital of USD 35.47 billion.--VNA
