President Tran Duc Luong in Shanghai



Ha Noi, Dec. 27 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong arrived in Shanghai today, Dec. 27, continuing his official visit to China.

He was warmly welcomed by the leaders and people of Shanghai who considered the Vietnamese President's visit an honour.

President Luong was briefed about cooperative ties between Shanghai with localities in Viet Nam, particularly Ho Chi Minh City. Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City have signed many cooperation documents, exchanged visits and views about several cooperation projects in economy, commerce, science and technology, especially a project to build a television tower in Ho Chi Minh City.

The leading officials of Shanghai expressed the wish to expand cooperation with Viet Nam's localities, thus contributing to consolidating and developing the neighbourly traditional relationship between China and Viet Nam in the interest of both nations.

President Luong highly valued Shanghai's capabilities in developing industry, science and technology as well as its valuable experience in boosting economic development and building the city.

He said he hoped that Shanghai would further its economic cooperation with and investment in localities of Viet nam and make the Shanghai-Ho Chi Minh City cooperation a model of relations for the localities of the two countries.

The same day, President Tran Duc Luong attended a Viet Nam-Shanghai economic-commercial seminar.

Addressing the seminar, President Luong lauded efforts to promote cooperation by the Vietnamese and Shanghai business people. He also called on them to expand cooperation in commerce and investment and boost the exchange of visits.

President Luong affirmed that the Vietnamese State and Government had always paid attention to and created favourable conditions for Chinese businesses in Viet Nam.

He believed the comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and China would reach a new plane in the next century.

President Luong also visited several economic and cultural establishments, including the Kingstar software company and television tower in Shanghai.--VNA
