Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung receives US Congressman Eni Faleomavaega

 

Vietnam attaches importance to fostering the friendship and cooperation with the US on the basis of respecting each other’s independence and sovereignty, therefore actively contributing to regional peace and stability. 
 
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the affirmation at a reception for visiting US Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, member of the House of Representative’s Committee on Foreign Relations, in Hanoi on December 19. 
 
The PM spoke highly of the Congressman’s contributions to Vietnam-US relations in recent years, especially the organisation of hearings on the impacts of Agent Orange/dioxin on Vietnam ’s environment and people. He suggested the US Government make greater contributions to assist dioxin victims. 
 
PM Dung expressed hope that US parliamentarians will continue to boost exchanges between the two countries’ legislative bodies and peoples to strengthen mutual understanding and develope bilateral ties in various fields, including economics, trade, investment and science-technology. 
 
He said he hopes to receive support from US parliamentarians so that negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement can soon produce good results. 
 
Faleomavaega expressed admiration for the will and spirit of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence, and highly valued the country’s recent socio-economic development achievements. 
 
He raised concern about recent developments in the East Sea and stressed support for peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. 
 
He also recorded Vietnam ’s achievements to ensure and promote human rights, and religious and belief freedom.-VNA
