Int'l organizations help develop educational sector in Mekong



Dec. 13 (VNA) -- International organizations have donated USD 4.3 million to help the educational sector in the Mekong delta overcome the aftermath of floods, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

Of the sum, USD 1.052 million funded by the World Bank will be spent on a project to develop primary education in the Mekong delta and USD 3.295 million funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a project to develop junior secondary education.

In addition, the Ministry is requesting the Government to allocate more than VND 105 billion (roughly USD 7.5 million) from the State budget for 2000 to help the Mekong delta restore schooling facilities. VND 20 billion of the money will be given to the provinces of Long An, An Giang and Dong Thap each, VND 15 billion to Kien Giang province, and VND 10 billion to the provinces of Can Tho, Vinh Long and Tien Giang each.--VNA
