Tet Viet 2006 Showcases Lunar New Year Traditions
Hanoi is hosting a week-long cultural and commercial festival as part of lunar New Year (Tet) celebrations, providing visitors a chance to learn about Vietnam’s traditions and culture. Tet Viet 2006, being held at the My Dinh National Stadium, has more than 200 pavilions showcasing a range of flowers and ornamental plants, and food and beverages used in celebrating Tet. The program also includes the Spring Sporting Festival featuring martial arts performances, wresting, Chinese chess, and human chess competitions. Visitors can enjoy water puppet shows and take part in folk games like bit mat dap nieu, which involves smashing a clay pot while blindfolded, and di cau Kieu. Demonstrations of Dong Ho folk painting and performances of traditional music like quan ho, chau van, hat Bong, and hat O are among the other highlights. The festival, organized by the UNESCO Vietnam Club and My Dinh Joint Stock Co., is on until Wednesday.
