Construction of new Tan Son Nhat airport starts
VietNamNet – Construction of the new Tan Son Nhat Airport began this morning, August 27, in HCM City.
The new airport is planned to open by the end of 2006, equipped with equipment that meets international standards, including 10 luggage conveyor belts, eight sky bridges, 20 escalators, 18 elevators, flight information boards and security equipment.
The project uses special loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The bank has provided a loan of around US$200mil for equipment purchases and for consultancy services. The loan has a term of 40 years, with 10 years interest free. JBIC loans will cover 85% of project costs. The rest will be sourced from the Southern Aviation Administration budget.
The Japan Airport Consulting Company holds the design and construction contracts, which is has farmed out to Kajima, Tasei, Obayashi and Maeda, all project developing companies
