Vietnam and Cambodia to resolve border issue this year




Ha Noi, Nov. 2 (VNA) -- On the basis of mutual respect and understanding and with goodwill and efforts, Viet Nam and Cambodia will solve the land border issue satisfactorily within this year, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam has affirmed.

The Deputy PM assured the visiting delegation of the Cambodian Royal Government to the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Border Affairs led by Var Kim Hong, advisor to the Royal Government on Border Affairs, who have been in Viet Nam for the third round of meetings of the joint committee in Ha Noi on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

During his reception of the Cambodian delegation in Ha Noi on Nov. 2, Deputy PM Cam expressed his firm belief that the border issue would be solved as cherished by the leadership and people of both countries to build a borderline of peace and security, thus facilitating development of the neighbourly relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, as well as contributing to development in each country and the region as a whole.

The Cambodian head delegate, Var Kim Hong, informed the Deputy PM of the results of the meetings. He said that the two sides had after two working days reached important consensus on most of the issues raised for discussion and that they had agreed to continue with negotiations to come to an agreement on outstanding issues so that the border issue would be solved soon
