More disabled and Agent Orange victims receive foreign aid
Ha Noi, Jan. 6 (VNA) -- More than 2,000 disabled and agent orange victims have benefitted from a two-year aid project for disabled and agent orange victims funded by the U.S. and Swiss Red Cross Societies.
The project was reviewed at a meeting held in Ha Noi on Monday by the Fund in Support of Agent Orange Victims.
It has been conducted since 2001 in the provinces of Ha Nam, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, and Da Nang city and Ha Noi at a total cost of 362,000 USD.
The project aimed to help improve the health and living conditions of the beneficiaries, particularly those living in special difficulties.
As a result, the disabled and agent orange victims in the projected localities have received better care, vocational training and wheelchairs. They have also received assistance in repairing their houses and improving their gardening and farming work, thus contributing to further improving their daily lives materially, and spiritually.
In addition, hundreds of people have been given free-of-charge medicines and medical treatment, including functional rehabilitation treatment.
In particular, nearly 700 people have been granted loans for animal breeding and cultivation and other services with the aim of increasing their income.
Viet Nam now has about 6 million disabled and agent orange victims, including 5 million disabled.
