UNHCR provides list of voluntary returnees from CPC back to VN

Ha Noi, Feb. 14 (VNA) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is likely to provide Viet Nam with a list of voluntary returnees from camps in Cambodia on Feb. 15 so as to help them be back home on Feb. 16.

It was the outcome of a two-day working visit ending on Feb. 13 of a UNHCR delegation led by Javier Riedmantten, Deputy Regional Representative in Thai Land, Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam, to the Central Highlands provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum.

During their stay, the UNHCR officials talked with 28 families of those who had illegally fled to Cambodia. All have appreciated the local government's non-discrimination policy towards themselves despite their relatives' illegal migration. They also highly valued the Government's efforts to improve the living conditions, both materially and spiritually, for people of the ethnic minorities' groups. They expressed wishes to welcome their relatives' return as soon as possible. Many asked the UNHCR officials to hand over their letters with such pieces of advice to their relatives in Cambodia.

The UNHCR delegates expressed thanks for the local administrations' good-will and effective cooperation. They also expressed impression on the stability and positive changes in all fields in the Central Highlands. They said they were greatly impressed to hear wishes from the migrants' families to see their relatives soon.

The UNHCR officials promised to report the truth they have witnessed in the Central Highlands to the migrants as well as the advice of their families to calm down them on their return.

If the plan completed, the listed voluntary returnees would reintegrate their families on the 5th day of Viet Nam's lunar New Year.--VNA
