Government holds discussions on development in Central Highlands
Ha Noi, Jan.22 (VNA) -- Socio-economic development and national defence and security in the Central Highlands must be boosted, in tandem with the implementation of the Party and State's policy towards ethnic minority people.
This view was agreed upon at a conference held by the Government in Dac Lac province on Monday, Jan.21, to discuss measures to carry out the Party Politburo's resolution on socio-economic development and national defence and security in the Central Highlands between 2001 and 2010.
Among those present at the conference were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Defence Minister Pham Van Tra; Truong Quang Duoc, Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilizations and Party Secretaries Tong Thi Phong and Truong Vinh Trong.
The participants were of the view that the authorities at all levels and branches of activities should ensure close coordination in economic, cultural and social development and national defence and security maintenance, as well as in the building of a firm political system and a qualified personnel contingent including local ethnic minority people.
These should be based on geographical, historical, cultural and social conditions of the Central Highlands, as well as living conditions of the local people, the conference stressed.
The Government will inject more investment from the state budget as well as credits into the region in order to help it promote economic restructuring along the direction of turning agriculture, forestry and processing industry into spearheads of the local commodity economy, the participants noted.--VNA
