Vietnam welcomes interim government in Afghanistan
Ha Noi, Jan. 10 (VNA)-- On Jan. 9, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai extended a message of congratulations to Afghanistan's interim leader Hamid Karzai.
The PM said in his message that the establishment of the interim government in Afghanistan with Hamid Harzai as the leader was an important start of the process for peace, national reconciliation, and reconstruction in Afghanistan.
He also expressed his belief that the relations between the people of Viet Nam and Afghanistan would be resumed, consolidated, and developed for the interest of both countries.
On Jan 10, Spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, Ms. Phan Thuy Thanh, answering local and foreign correspondents' questions on Viet Nam's position toward the recent establishment of the Afghan interim Government and her intention to assist in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, also said that Vietnam welcomes Afghan interim government.
Ms. Thanh further said Viet Nam considers the move as an important start for the process of peace, national reconciliation, and reconstruction of Afghanistan, reflecting the aspiration of the Afghan people of all stratas and ethnic groups.
Viet Nam welcomes efforts by the international community to help the Afghan people overcome difficulties, stabilise their lives, and rebuild their country.
